from New York ! 29/09/08

午前中は、ACCのRalphさんにご紹介いただいたピアニスト・Joseph Kubera さんにお会いしに、Greenwich Villageへ。といっても、連絡が上手く取れず場所が未定だったことから、とりあえずWashington Squareにて、待つこと2時間。ヒッピー文化発祥の地らしいこの公園。昼間からギター片手に歌う人々があちこちにいる中で、思いがけずのんびりすることができ、なかなか面白かったです。その後、無事にKubera さんにもお会いし、ジョン・ケージの作品（彼は、ケージの偶然性の作品をも「美しい」とおっしゃっていて、勉強になりました）やその他色々なお話ができ、貴重な時間でした。

午後はACC仲間の園子さんと、Social Security Card を取得しに、お役所へ。待ち時間に園子さんと意外と深い話までできて、楽しかったです。無事に手続きを終え、そのままGrand Central駅の地下でお茶をし、素晴らしく荘厳なニューヨーク公立図書館にて観光、最後はKinokuniya書店へ。「日本」紹介の写真集や書籍を見て、やはり古く伝統的なものの紹介が多いことを実感。新しい音楽を紹介していきたい私としては悩ましい現実ですが、でも伝統を持つ国として仕方ないのかな、という気も最近しています。

***English Practice***

I went to Washington Square to meet pianist  Joseph Kubera (Mr. Samuelson introduced me !) In the morning. There ware a lot of musician in the park, so I enjoyed their music While I waited for him. I could talk with Mr. Kubera about Cage's music, new music, Zen etc. He told me cage's music was beautiful even if it was made by chance operation.I was so impressed by his opinion.   

In the afternoon, I went to Sosial Security Center with my ACC friend  Sonoko, we enjoyed talking during waiting time. After that, we went to Grand Central station, The new York Public Library and  Kinokuniya book store. I could read guidebooks about japan at Kinokuniya and know Japanese traditional cultures took important part in those books.Though I'm a presenter of Japanese contemporary cultures, I realized the importance of traditional cultures of japan.
